Who are we and what is this project?

The website https://slovaks.ai/  serves as a platform for networking Slovak AI professionals from around the world. The map provides an easy overview of Slovak capacities in the field of AI around the world.

Experience tells us that networking and collaboration together create a positive synergistic effect that can contribute to greater competitiveness of Central Europe including Slovakia. The Slovaks AI Map is intended to be the beginning of a long-term collaboration among Slovak professionals and the mutual sharing of expertise and knowledge.

The following organizations form the partnership:

Hereinafter, we will also refer to us as the “partners”.

We take every precaution available to ensure your personal data are processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and personal data safety standards of the European Union. We participate in the project jointly. Therefore, we process your personal data as joint controllers.

Our project is to create a platform for networking Slovak AI professionals from around the world. The map provides an easy overview of Slovak capacities in the field of AI around the world.

Who are you

If you enter into a contact or a contract with us, mostly by your own will or based on an endorsement of your colleague or a peer, we might process your personal data. Please read on to find out what data we might process, what is the legal basis for the processing and what are your rights over your personal data.

Purposes of data processing

We may collect your personal data on several occasions:

  • contact with you,
  • when you register to our events (such as webinars),
  • when you decide to participate in our activities or when we invite you to participate,
  • when you join our network or when we invite you to join,
  • when your professional profile and work will be published on our website,
  • when you sign up to our newsletter.

Scope of data processing

Contact with you

We will process your name, surname, e-mail address, phone number, eventually also your employer and a job title. These data serve for making it possible to get and keep in contact with you. We will keep your data for 3 months after the last contact. Legal basis for this processing is your consent as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(a), which you can express in a questionnare linked to “Contact us” button on our website. You can withdraw your consent any time without any consequences.

Event registration

You can register for our webinars and other events. In this case, we will process the personal data that you filled in the registration form (identification, contact and professional data) to register you and enable you to attend the event. We may also communicate with you about the event. The legal basis for this processing is based on the contract with you as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(b). We will process your personal data for this purpose for 2 months.

Participation in our projects and network

When you decide to participate in our activities as well as when you are endorsed, we will use your contact details such as name, surname, e-mail address and a phone number, as well as your academic title, job title and an employer.

In case you make an inquiry to become part of our network and / or projects, we will process your data based on your consent as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(a) until you withdraw your consent.

In case we approach you based on an endorsement, your data will be processed based on our legitimate interest to fulfill the purpose of our slovaks.ai project as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(f). We will process your personal data for this purpose for 6 months.

Publishing your professional profile on our website

In case we obtain your consent as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(a), we will create and administer your profile in the network database and other aspects of your participation in the network (e.g., general communication and organization of events). We will cease processing your data and delete them from the website after you withdraw your consent.

Based on your consent, we will collect and publish information related to you or your public professional activities such as biographical information, publications, authorship of articles, academic or research expertise or interests, conferences you have attended or groups (societies) of which you are a member. We do not collect sensitive data such as information about your race, political views, religious views, or health conditions.

Newsletter

You may wish to sign to our newsletter and to be informed about news and upcoming events. We will process your name and e-mail address based on your consent as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(a) until you withdraw it.

Legal defense

In case a legal dispute occurs, we might process your personal data as needed for the legal case. The data processing would take place based on our legitimate interest to a legal defense as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(f).

Statistics

It is our legitimate interest to run and develop the project. We would therefore use aggregated anonymised personal data for this purpose. Anonymous data is no longer personal data.

Cookies

If you visit our website https://slovaks.ai/ we may process your personal data to operate the website properly, improve the website or show you commercials suitable for you via cookies. Based on your consent as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(a), we might:

  • place analytical and statics cookies on your computer that will help us understand how you use the website. Duration of cookies is x dyas and you may withdraw your consent anytime,
  • place marketing cookies on your computer to make sure our marketing activities reach you,
  • process your IP address and information about your web behaviour to create statistics and reports on our website usage, or to display targeted advertising on other websites and to forward it to advertising operators.
  • In all cases you may withdraw the consent by changing the cookie preferences.

Based on our legitimate interest as per GDPR art. 6 (1)(f), we:

  • use cookies that are necessary for this website to function properly,
  • process your IP address and information about your web behavior to operate our website properly via necessary cookies.

Sharing of personal data with third parties

Public information

The profiles we create are visible to any user of the platform. We believe that by providing some visitors platform users (businesses interested in specific areas of research) with researchers’ profiles matching the search criteria we help in achieving the goal for which the information was published (i.e. dissemination of knowledge).

Nevertheless, we acknowledge that researchers’ preferences change over time and that some researchers may not want to be associated with or contacted about their research (anymore). Therefore, we offer you various options of tailoring their profile visibility and contactability in search results.

Non-public information

Generally, we do not share any non-public information with third parties unless you give us your prior consent. However, we can share your personal data with service providers who assist us in running the network (e.g. providers of infrastructure, esp. our programmers, web and software providers).

We may share your personal data also with public authorities when the law requires us to do so. In such cases we share only the information that we have to and we communicate with you as soon as allowed.

We may also disclose personal data in order to identify, contact, or bring legal action against a person or entity who may be causing harm or endangering the partners or other members of the network.

If we are involved in a corporate reorganization (e.g. acquisition, merger, asset sale), personal data may be transferred to the acquiring entity and become subject to a different privacy policy. Before the data transfer we will give you a notice and option to opt-out of the transfer.

Transfers of personal data outside of the European Union and European Economic Area (EU / EEA)

Our group does not includes partners located outside of the European Union (EU) and we do not transfer your personal data to so-called third countries outside the EU / EEA.

Data retention

As a general rule, we retain your personal data to the extent and for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purpose(s) for which it was collected, to resolve disputes, establish legal defences, enforce our agreements, comply with applicable law or do scientific research. Please refer to the paragraphs above.

Your rights

As a data subject, you may be entitled to exercise some or all of the following rights free of charge:

  1. Right of access: to require information about whether your personal data is retained and access to and/or copies of your personal data retained, including the purposes of the processing, the categories of personal data concerned, and the recipients or categories of recipients to whom the personal data is disclosed and where possible, the envisaged period for which the personal data will be stored, or, if not possible, the criteria used to determine that period;
  2. Right to erasure: to request proper rectification, removal, or restriction of your personal data, e.g. because (i) of the incomplete or inaccurate nature, (ii) it is no longer needed for the purposes for which it was collected, (iii) the consent on which the processing was based has been withdrawn, or (iv) you have taken advantage of an existing right to object to the data processing; in case your personal data is processed by third parties, we will also forward your request for rectification, removal, or restriction to such third parties unless this proves impossible or involves disproportionate effort;
  3. Right to restriction of processing: to request us to restrict the processing of your personal data in the following cases: (i) you have requested a rectification of your inaccurate personal data, and the restriction of the processing will be valid for a period of time necessary to verify the accuracy of your personal data and to rectify them, (ii) the processing of your personal data by us is illegal, but you do not wish to erase them, (iii) we do not need your personal data for the purpose for which we have processed them, but you insist on their processing (esp. storing) by us for determination, exercise or defence of your legal claims, or (iv) you have filed an objection against the processing of your personal data based on a legitimate interest, and the restriction of the processing will be valid for a period of time necessary to determine whether our legitimate interest prevails over your right not to process your personal data;
  4. Right to refuse and withdraw your consent: without impact to data processing activities that have taken place before such withdrawal, you may withdraw your consent to processing of your personal data at any time;
  5. Right to objection against processing of personal data on the basis of legitimate interest: to object against the processing of your personal data on the basis of legitimate interest; based on that objection, we will consider whether it is in our legitimate interest to process your personal data for the given purpose, or whether your right not to process your personal data prevails over our legitimate interest;

If you believe that all of the aforementioned rights are insufficient, or you are of the opinion that we violate your rights in any way, you have a right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You can lodge the complaint with the national supervisory authority, which is Úrad pre ochranu osobných údajov, Hraničná 4826/12, 820 07 Bratislava.

We may change our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes to this Privacy Policy on this page.
